The Wicklow Way was the first of Ireland's long-distance walking trails to be set up in 1982. The 132km long route spans the length of County Wicklow. Tinahely is around two-thirds of way down the trail and Ashfield House is the only Bed and Breakfast in the area located on the actual route.
Starting at Marlay Park in County Dublin, the Wicklow Way weaves its way through some of the more remote and beautiful parts of County Wicklow. Some of the highlights on the trail include views of Ireland's highest waterfall at Powerscourt, the ancient monastic city at Glendalough and the serene valley of Glenmalure nestled below Leinster's tallest mountain - Lugnaquillia. After passing by Tinahely and Shillelagh, the trail eventually finishes in Clonegal, County Carlow.
Because the trail was designed to go through some of the remotest parts of Wicklow, accommodation can at times be quite sparse. It is essential that lodgings for the journey are booked well in advance.
Ashfield House understands that walkers have needs that are different from other guests. Not only is the location of our house a blessing for tired legs but we can also provide transport to the town. If the idea of traveling any further is all too much, we can serve up an evening meal in the house and our well-stocked bar will help you unwind. Other ways in which we cater for the walker include transferring baggage to the following accommodation on the route and making packed lunches for the day's walk.
